Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Flamenco Festival New York we honor the man who brought flamenco guitar to the world stage and who first performed at the Town Hall in 1959. This is the Tribute to Maestro Sabicas a musical celebration of the legendary Agustin Castellpon Campos better known simply as Sabicas. Born in Pamplona in 1912 Sabicas arrived in New York in the early 1940s as an exile of the Spanish Civil War. The city would become his creative sanctuary for the next four decades. New York game Sabicas the artistic freedom and global audience that Spain under dictatorship could not. For forty years he was the welcoming face for flamenco artists arriving in the US a friend a host and a protector to dancers singers and guitarists seeking a foothold in a foreign land. This tribute brings together four exceptional artists guitar players Gerardo Nunez Antonio Rey Alvaro Martinete and Olga Pericetto honoring the maestro who made New York Flamencos second home.
