Internationally acclaimed Lebanese-French trumpeter and composer Ibrahim Maalouf is finally headlining in Australia, and he’s bringing the full force of his electrifying 11-piece band – complete with six trumpets – to the Melbourne International Jazz Festival for The Trumpets of Michel-Ange.
Praised by legends like Quincy Jones and dubbed a “virtuoso” by The New York Times, Maalouf has lit up stages around the world – from jazz clubs to arenas. His long list of collaborators includes icons like Stevie Wonder, Sting, Marcus Miller, Angélique Kidjo, the Kronos Quartet and Wynton Marsalis.
Now, he’s here to blow the roof off with a project that’s as explosive as it is enchanting. Fusing jazz, Arabic, and contemporary influences, The Trumpets of Michel-Ange effortlessly bridges festive and nostalgic Eastern melodies with bold, modern Western sensibilities, driving an uplifting experience with deep cultural roots that's impossible to stand still to.
